Graphite samples

8 week life drawing class
these are some of the samples i created during Susan Abbs 8 week life drawing class at hills road collage i did in early 2024. This course really improved my observational skills as well as my anatomy and was incredibly beneficial. during this class we were taught many different techniques using charcoal as well as experimenting with ink. this class was incredibly informative and i feel like i really learnt a lot.

Self portraits
I have done several studies of my own face which have been very helpful to my development as I had to force myself to ignore my insecurities and draw my face how it really is. This really helped me to improve my observational drawings.

Embroidery extended project

Embroidery extended project outcome:
this eye peice made from thread and cavas was the final outcome of my embroidery project taking around 12 hours to complete, this peice combines all the skills i had learnt through my embroidery explorations so far
Costume/Makeup explorations

Over the past year I have experimented with full face costume makeup as one of the many mediums i have explored to the left you can see my first time using costume makeup using it to create a basic skeleton in 2022. Next to this is my most recent skeleton, I've come far in the detail and style of the painting learning how to use the curves of a face to my advantage in creating a piece. as well as this I have learnt how to get the most saturated colours I achieving much darker blacks in comparison to my first attempt.

In 2021 I experimented with fake blood during a photography project based off the idea of futility. These images were then later used as references for paintings such as my painting "thirsty" as seen above as well as the drawing "snack" as seen above, it was helpful to see how liquid runs over the face and other

surfaces and really aided my technical knowledge as well as giving me some new ideas for pieces I wanted to create.
I also tried to manipulate my face in strange unsettling ways to create some interesting and unique references and proportions.

For Comicon I dressed as Patrick Bateman from the 2000s movie "American Psycho". For this I made his iconic axe from the movie, I did this by buying a fake foam axe online and then painting it to make it look realistic and bloodied I really like the way this turned out the way I used the lighter and darker reds really makes it look believable as a axe covered in thick wet fresh blood. I also made his raincoat from the same
scene, I bought the rain coat online and then painted on the blood details on the coat to create a more realistic look.
As well as this I used fake blood on my face to imitate the splattering of blood on his face in the film. The reference photos I used of the character for the costume and the makeup are bellow:

Digital exploration

Charcoal development pieces
Using charcoal on textured canvases under varying time limits I created these pieces. My aim for them was to convey emotion and ideas through relatively simple shapes and only using black and white. The main emotions I focused on were despair as well as abusive love. The piece to the left was my final outcome and focused on abusive love. I tried to convey this by having the focus be two people in an embrace, contrasting it with sharp and aggressive lines and only using harsh dark and light tones.

Ink only experimentation

Second pen only exploration

Final outcome of pen only exploration
First pen only experiment practicing drawing with no sketch
